From local to global (reflection of globalization on geography, city, urban morphology)

Abstract

The research; attempts to create an understanding of the concept of globalization and explain its impact on geography, cities and urban morphology. Globalization and its rapid processes together have changed the old stable principles, even the paradigms and ways of understanding phenomena and events.

The research has used Descriptive Approach to express the process of globalization and different understandings from different perspectives. The study has shown that the process of globalization is a process that has existed with human settlement on Earth, that is, it is not a new process, but what is new is the speed and content of the process. The pace of the changes has increased significantly and the issues and topics in the international relations are not the same as before, international borders between political regions have blurred and the flow of goods and information and human movements cross them easily. Geography, cities and urban morphology have all been affected by this process, with distances between places, cultural and economic differences, materials and tools becoming closer to each other, and cities becoming the centers that operate this process and have changed from local and isolated ones into international cities where the world's political, economic and cultural processes are conducted. In addition, the appearance and morphology of the world's cities are losing their distinctiveness. The materials, architectural styles and practices of daily life in all cities around the world are almost identical. Urban planning is largely carried out in accordance with sustainable development principles.
